Just Wondering

We Christians belive that God made man in the image of Himself. I certainly believe that is 100 percent true. What I dont understand is that when He made us in his image, why was worldly knowledge not given to us? I am sure he wanted us to be smart and intelligent just like Him, that's the reason He made us like him. But Satan interfered, made Eve eat the apple and convince Adam to it too and soon man became aware of himself. Why? Why did God not give us knowledge when me made us in his image? Why go through all the trouble and bringing satan into all this? Can anyone explain why?
